Stop SPP Events: April 19th, May 17th, July 1st

Hey Folks,

Here's the overview of the plan for April 19th, May 17th and July 1st to Stop the SPP, please share your thoughts before it goes out:

April 19, 2008 - Invitations and Info-Drop:

1. It seems like 500 people standing out in the cold on February 16th outside of Queen's Park should equal 1000 people walking around in the warm weather on April 19th in Toronto dropping off information at businesses, houses and apartments. If 1000 people carry 1000 flyers each that equals one-million flyers blanketing the City of Toronto that day and making it an issue everyone should have heard about and will talk about.

We'll have four "official" anti-SPP flyers in .pdf format that include invitations for May 17th and July 1st on 8.5" x 11" paper so anyone can print or photocopy them independently before they show up; we'll also have a central meeting point at Dundas Square at 1 pm where people can pick them up if they want more. Submissions will be accepted, ideas so far include Canadian Deception Dollars from TorontoChange.com that allow three copies per page to be printed; and others with more information on them. If people want to bring other flyers or DVD's to drop-off as well that's fine too.

We'll divide the city up into areas people can sign up for by email or on Facebook to go in groups of two and visit everyone they can, with the event-rules expressly stating that to participate we promise to be polite, compassionate, brief and only answer questions if asked. The info-drop will take place from 1 pm - 8 pm on Saturday, April 19th, while after that at 9 pm whoever wants to will meet at The Madison Pub (one-block east of Spadina on the north side of Bloor) to get to know each other better and celebrate our efforts.

2. May 17, 2008 - Rally in Dundas Square (or elsewhere):

The information delivered on April 19th will include invitations websites where the formal rally will be held on April 19th, preferably at Dundas Square, we're working on getting permits now. Speakers and artists will both be invited to make for a fun and educational event, more information will be posted on websites and Facebook shortly.


3. July 1, 2008 - Canada Day Celebrations in Ottawa:

We'll organize caravans to head up to Ottawa for Canada Day on July 1st to celebrate as patriotic Canadians the fact that we're actively taking back our country. If we have 100,000 Canadians there wearing anti-SPP shirts and partying alongside everyone else then we'll make in impression while sharing information and having a good time.
