Any police force that says they don't need civilian or other oversight is lying.
For thousands of years there have been good and bad officers of the law, and any large powerful organization saying they'll be the first one in history to wield that much power without drifting towards corruption, is lying.
It's not even a legitimate argument.
It's not even "the other side."
It's utter nonsense to fight against ANY restriction or check on power beyond ones own sense of propriety without realizing it sets an insane standard for any powerful organization that they cannot possibly reach, and thus in good conscience should not promote they are capable of.
(Or, we shouldn't accept the argument as valid. It's unfortunate, but people have been given a licence to print bullshit, and that's a licence to print money...)
I even tell girlfriends I'm pretty good at the ol' argy-bargyin', so feel free to press for explanations or seek the counsel of third-parties to whup my ass.
